September comes with a gradual change in weather patterns. I’m reluctant to call it Spring in the Western Cape, but the flowers blooming, bees buzzing and birds singing are all tell-tale signs that the new season is now upon us! For many of us its more than that – it boosts our mood and energy levels, and a feeling of optimism rises. Let’s harness the happiness hormones to increase our productivity and overall wellness for the balance of 2021!
September is also Tourism month in South Africa. We could look at depressing stats on the devastating impact of the pandemic on the industry, or we could look ahead and reimagine the tourism industry of the future. The latter in my opinion is the only way to move forward.
South African Tourism’s Africa’s Travel and Tourism Summit will take place from 19th to 21st September 2021. It will be the African travel trade’s first hybrid conference, whereby tourism stakeholders can access events physically and online. The Summit will be held in five venues across Africa, including Johannesburg and Durban. The aim is to share insights and ideas to explore collaborative efforts that can lead to recovery. On Friday 24 September, we celebrate Heritage Day in South Africa. On this day, South Africans are encouraged to celebrate their culture and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions, in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people. Since 2005 it has been referred to as National Braai Day, with the idea of using a braai to unite people and to gather around a fire to celebrate. Who needs a reason to braai anyway??
